This semester I am takeing two classes about renaissance art and architecture, both talk about the cupola of the Florence Cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore). Because the cupola was the last thing finished it is the only aspect of the duomo we study, but I find the facade amazing. I already talked about my first impression of the Duomo, so now I am posting some pictures I recently took of the facade, which also include some close up details.

You may not come to Lewiston…But the Pope probably will
December 14, 2008 · 9 Comments
The reason that the pope could come to Lewiston is due to the location of the Maine Basilica. It’s located in an interesting part of Lewiston. And it doesn’t really look like its belongs because it is this gorgeous Cathedral surrounded by houses that appear as if they have not been up kept.
So during exams, my friend dragged me to it to take photos for his photography project. Of course I delightedly agreed to go, knowing I would be able to take pictures of something other than the Bates Campus. Enjoy the photography of the facade of the Maine Basilica.

Color v. Sepia v. Black and White
September 7, 2008 · 1 Comment
So yeah its late at night, but I can’t sleep because of the rain from Hurricane Hanna. So i thought I would post a picture, or in this case three. So this is a picture from St. Francis of Asisi Cathedral in Taos, New Mexico. And to make the picture more interesting I took it once in color:
Then I took it with my camera useing the Sepia tone (which made it oragnier then it usually turns out when you are doing it with a physical plant.) I did this to give it more of a old photographic feel because the church is old.
And lastly once I had it up on my computer I made a black and white copy of it which I like the best. It takes away the touristy feel of sometimes a color photograph has and gives more of an artistic feel and it is a stronger photograph.
